Marcia Cross Launches Skin Cancer Month Crusade
Fair-skinned actress Marcia Cross has joined forces with the American Society For Dermatological Surgery to help protect people from the sun. The redhead has spent her life covering up and wearing sunscreen and now she's keen to pass on her tips to others as part of a Skin Cancer Awareness Month campaign. And she's urging everyone to take advantage of a free check-up initiative throughout the US in May.

She says, "You want to catch skin cancer early. If you do, it's 100 per cent curable." Cross risks ridicule every time she hits the beach because she insists on wearing unflattering wide-brimmed hats and always covers up, but she says she'll never adopt a sexier look - and risk cancer.

She adds, "I live in a hat and sunglasses and I'm always covered in sunscreen, which seems like a no-brainer but a lot of people still don't do it, and I'm just a walking example of that. People say, 'Is it because you're incognito?' And I say, 'No, I would look like this even if I wasn't an actress.'"

• May 05 2007 CROSS PREGNANT FOR DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES RETURN
MARCIA CROSS' recent pregnancy will feature in the finale of the current season of Desperate Housewives afterall, even though she and show creator Marc Cherry went to great lengths to hide the fact she was with child.
Cross hid her bulging belly behind cushions, chairs and tables during the early months of her pregnancy, but had to quit the show altogether at the beginning of the year (07) when her doctors put her on bed rest.
But, during an interview on The Late Show With David Letterman in America on Thursday night (03May07), the actress revealed why Cherry insisted on turning her own home into a movie set after she was forced to take a break from the show.
Cross, who will return to the show for the upcoming season finale, teased, "I come back in a particular condition, which, sort of... I can't really say." But when Letterman quizzed her further, asking, "You come back pregnant?" the flustered redhead said, "I didn't say a word," prompting the host to add, "You come back pregnant and we don't know who the father is." Impressed Cross nodded, "Yes. That was good." The actress is no longer pregnant - she gave birth to twin girls in February (07).

• May 04 2007 Cross names child Savannah after vision coincidence
DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES star Marcia Cross was destined to call one of her twins Savannah - because the name came to her when she first tried to get pregnant years ago.

The 45-year-old, who gave birth to twins Savannah and Eden in February (07), forgot all about the name until her husband Tom Mahoney randomly hailed it as a possibility after she became pregnant.

She says, "Years ago, I tried to get pregnant by myself and it didn't work out. While I was in the process of this I had this spiritual experience where it felt like someone said you're going to have a baby named Savannah.

"I didn't get pregnant and I remember thinking, 'What a weird name, do I even like it?' I forgot all about it.

"Then we found out I was pregnant - we didn't know we were having girls at this point - and I got an email from my husband and it said, 'I just heard a name I like - Savannah."
