Cross: Motherhood 'meant to be'
Marcia Cross, who recently gave birth to twins, is proud to be a member of the Mom Club.

"I wanted to be a member of that club so badly, and now I'm in and it's so much better than I even imagined," says the 45-year-old actress, who plays Bree on ABC's "Desperate Housewives."

"Even before I was 30, I started thinking about (motherhood)," Cross tells People magazine in its April 23 issue, on newsstands Friday. "The years started going by and I was anxious about the clock ticking. Now, it seems like it was all meant to be."

Cross gave birth to daughters Eden and Savannah in February - one month before her March 21 due date - hours after being diagnosed with preeclampsia, a disorder characterized by high blood pressure that threatens both mother and baby, according to the magazine.

More ‘Desperate’ tales from Marc and Marcia

By Ruben V. Nepales

LOS ANGELES—WE CONTINUE with more “Desperate Housewives” tales from one of the show’s stars, Marcia Cross, and the show’s creator/co-writer/producer, Marc Cherry.

Marc is not ashamed to admit that he based Marcia’s flame-haired character, the perfectionist Bree Van De Kamp, on his own mother Martha. And Martha does not mind being mentioned openly as the inspiration for the Stepford wife in the popular dramedy.

When I asked Marcia in our interview if she had discussed her character with Martha, the fair-skinned actress answered, “I mostly just observe her. I’m always a bit intimidated. You have to meet her.”

The ‘desperate’ life of Marcia Cross
After Hours Correspondent

As the new season of ‘Desperate Housewives’ kicks off, Marcia Cross (aka Bree Van De Kamp) bares all on her character

It seems like in Season 2 on Star World, so much is going on with George and Andrew and Bree’s drinking -- is she going to be happier?
I don’t think Bree knows what would make her happy and that’s part of the problem. She doesn’t want to deal with everything and that’s why she’s drinking and trying to self-medicate.

Is Bree the most desperate housewife?
I guess that’s true. She’s the most desperate.

Are you still finding Bree exhausting to play?
Yes. I wish I could say it is easier but it is really not because she hasn’t been in any one emotional state for very long so it is constantly moving through different journeys with her.

Housewife 'Bree' Visits Beantown
Actor Appears On Magazine Cover

POSTED: 7:45 am EST November 29, 2005
UPDATED: 7:26 pm EST November 29, 2005

BOSTON -- "Desperate Housewives" star and Massachusetts native Marcia Cross was back home for the holidays.

NewsCenter 5's Mary Saladna reported that Cross put her domestic diva character, Bree Van De Kamp, aside to help Boston's newest magazine kick off the holiday season.

Cross, a Marlborough, Mass., native, graces the holiday edition of Boston Common magazine.

To honor the cover girl, the magazine threw Cross a party at the Wang Center.

"I'm looking out there now, I see people I went to high school with, friends I grew up with, my mom is in there somewhere, my family. It is fantastic," Cross said.

"She is really nice, she loves the kids. She is a great person," Cross' cousin, Laura Lanfear said. "It is fun to watch her and our friends love to see her on TV."

Cross' fiance, investment banker Tom Mahoney, was not at the party, although Cross said he was in town for the holiday to meet her family.

"My mother had met (Mahoney), but not all of my family. But now he has met everyone except one niece," Cross said.

Cross gave few clues as to what is next for her "Desperate Housewives" character, Bree. Is psychotic pharmacist and former fiance George really gone for good?

"Everybody seems to think everyone is going to rise from the dead, don't they? I really don't know. I think there may be some guilt (for Bree)," Cross said.

"Desperate Housewives" can be seen Sunday at 9 p.m. on WCVB-TV.

Marcia Cross' housewife fear
November 11, 2005, 9:41:14

Marcia Cross is terrified she is turning into her neurotic 'Desperate Housewives' character since getting engaged.

The sexy red head, who plays the obsessive Bree Van De Kamp in the hit show, admits she has become obsessed with cleaning and cooking like Bree since getting engaged to stockbroker Tom Mahoney.

She confessed: "I was getting anxious because Tom would come home and I would feel like there should be food on the table. But Tom sat me down and said, "Honey, it's not the 1950s. I'm a grown man we can work this out"

"But I still worry about it, I want to cook better so I'm working on it"
Marcia, 43, also revealed she is constantly badgering Tom, 47, to eat better and always watches him during dinner to make sure he eats all his vegetables.

She added to Britain's Grazia magazine: "When you love somebody you really want them to eat well So I'm always thinking about that I can't believe I sit their going, "Eat your vegetables," but I do it".

Marcia Cross says staying thin is "living hell"

'Desperate Housewives' star Marcia Cross says trying to stay thin is a "living hell". The flame-haired beauty feels huge pressure to stay slim and feels like she has been banned from eating since signing up to the hit show.

She said: "It's like they pay me not to eat. It's a living hell. "I have often felt there was a lot of pressure on me to look good, especially in shows like 'Melrose Place' where the girls were so skinny. I thought, 'They are all so petite and I am this big girl'. I often look at myself and worry about how I look. It's the beautiful people syndrome."

Meanwhile, the sexy star says she feels out of place in Hollywood and struggles to cope with life in the limelight. She added in an interview with Britain's Now magazine: "I think it's hard in my own little area of Los Angeles where I live, because I don't like to wear make-up and I'm not very fashion-conscious in my own life. So I have to kind of deal with being intruded upon in that way."

Desperate Housewives Marcia Cross Lost Touch

September 5, 2005, 12:23:57

Marcia Cross admits she's struggled to stay in touch with loved ones since winning a starring role on 'Desperate Housewives'.

The redheaded actress, who plays neurotic wife and mother Bree Van De Kamp on the hit show, says her busy schedule means she is often forced to cancel plans with friends and family leaving her frustrated.

She is quoted in Britain's New magazine as saying: "The hardest thing for me is finding time to see the people that I love - my friends and my family.

"This year, I was glad that I had lots of solid friendships because I had to say, 'I can't see you', so many times. I couldn't make plans. But hopefully this year the schedule will be better, and it will be more balanced."

September 1, 2005, 6:27:52

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES star MARCIA CROSS is thrilled future husband TOM MAHONEY enjoys cooking - as she hates spending time in the kitchen.

The flame-haired 43-year-old initially feared Mahoney expected a domestic goddess, but he soon put her mind at rest.

She says, "When Tom and I started dating I got very anxious because he'd come over and I'd feel that there should be food on the table for him - and there just wasn't.

Not So 'Desperate' Cross Engaged
(Friday, August 19 03:03 PM)

LOS ANGELES (Zap2it.com) Just in case no one believed Marcia Cross the first time she said she was straight, the "Desperate Housewives" co-star has gone and gotten herself engaged -- to a man.
Cross will be a wife for real, but hopefully not a desperate one, after accepting boyfriend Tom Mahoney's proposal over the weekend, publicist Heidi Slan confirms on Friday, Aug. 19.

"The happy couple have not set a date for the wedding yet," she tells the AP.

It will be the first marriage for both Cross, 43, and Mahoney, 47. She had previously dated companion Richard Jordan until his death in 1993. Her long term single status seemed to support the rumor that she was gay after tabloids reported she was going to do an interview for gay magazine The Advocate.

"It was very odd and I assume this is what comes of being 42 and single. I don't know if they just needed to find a reason why I wasn't married," she said at the time. "I mean, I'm not [gay]. I did think it was really weird that there was all this curiosity about something like that, about sexuality."

Cross plays the perfectly uptight Bree Van De Kamp on ABC's "Desperate Housewives," for which she and co-stars Teri Hatcher and Felicity Huffman earned Emmy nominations. The show is also up for the best comedy series award.

The redhead also famously played the rather unbalanced Dr. Kimberly Shaw on "Melrose Place" and made appearances on "Knots Landing," "Everwood" and "Seinfeld."

Duo to Appear as Entertainment Industry Foundation Ambassadors for Public Service Announcement to Promote QVC Presents `FFANY Shoes on Sale' Fundraiser

WEST CHESTER, Pa., July 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Stars of ABC's "Desperate Housewives" Marcia Cross and Felicity Huffman have joined the fight against breast cancer as the stars of new public service announcements to promote the annual QVC Presents "FFANY Shoes on Sale" gala philanthropic event.

Cross and Huffman serve as Entertainment Industry Foundation ambassadors and will appear in both print and television public service announcements supporting the 12th annual QVC Presents "FFANY Shoes on Sale" gala event airing live on electronic retailer QVC - Wednesday, October 26, 2005 from 7 PM - 10 PM (ET).

Event sponsors QVC and the Fashion Footwear Association of New York (FFANY) will offer more than 100,000 pairs of shoes at half the suggested retail price, with all net proceeds from the program going to leading breast cancer research and education institutions.

Over the past decade, QVC Presents "FFANY Shoes on Sale" has sold over one million pairs of shoes and has raised nearly $20 million for the cause. 2005 beneficiaries include the Abramson Cancer Center of the University of Pennsylvania; the University of Michigan Comprehensive Cancer Center's Breast Oncology Program; the Entertainment Industry Foundation's Women's Cancer Research Fund; the Gillette Center for Women's Cancers at Dana-Farber Institute; the Breast Cancer Research Foundation; the Siteman Cancer Center at Washington University and the Joyce Eisenberg Keefer Breast Cancer Center at John Wayne Cancer Institute.

"I was honored to be an Entertainment Industry Foundation ambassador and support this event and this cause," said Cross. "Breast cancer and other women's cancers claim far too many lives. QVC's broadcast is a great way to raise funds for better ways to detect cancer earlier, when it may be cured." [ full text ]

Marcia Cross gets all juiced up...

For the ladies of Desperate Housewives, life away from the hit TV show
can be even more draining than their characters' warped existence on
Wisteria Lane.

Marcia Cross, who plays the neurotic - though still rather foxy - Bree
Van De Kamp, recently declared: "For me, not eating is a constant
struggle, it's like they pay me not to eat. It's a living hell."

My mole recently spotted Cross dining at the Indian restaurant Mint Leaf.

"Marcia came in with her new boyfriend, Tom Mahoney," I'm told. "He
ordered sea bass and prawns, but she just opted to sip on an endless
succession of fruit juices.

"In the end, the bill included one pineapple juice, two apple juices,
six orange juices and two Very Berry cocktails."

DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES CREATOR DOUBTED CROSS

The creator of DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES didn't want to cast MARCIA CROSS in the hit show - because she reminded him too much of his mother.

While it was relatively easy for Cherry to choose the comedy's other castmembers, he initially found it tough to embrace Cross as obsessive-compulsive housewife BREE VAN DE CAMP.

He says, "I wasn't sure about Marcia... She was perfect, (but) I think she was too much like my mother. I think that scared me.

"I have to say that when we initially got it all worked out and Marcia came aboard, it was like I think the second day of shooting, 'I was like, 'Oh, I'm stupid!'"

'Housewife' plagued by amorous men
Tuesday, March 8 2005, 13:37 GMT -- by Daniel Saney

Desperate Housewives star Marcia Cross says that she has been plagued by straight men on a mission following rumours that she is a lesbian.

Despite denying rumours of lesbianism last month, the actress has reportedly been approached by men who would like to do the honour of turning her straight. However, Cross insists that she is not desperate.

She told the New York Post about a time when a man approached her at a party saying: "I heard you were gay. Let's get a room and prove that wrong."

She declined the proposed favour, explaining: "Sorry. I'd much rather be gay than sleep with you just to prove I wasn't."
